Europe’s Largest Agricultural Produce Transshipment Terminal Inaugurated with EUR 10 Million Investment

Grampet Group has recently completed the construction of Europe’s largest transshipment terminal for agricultural produce, located in Dornesti, Suceava County, Romania, near the Ukrainian border. This ambitious project, valued at EUR 10 million, represents a significant milestone in Grampet Group’s ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance railway infrastructure in the region, while also supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.

The new terminal at Dornesti is a crucial component of the solidarity corridors established by EU member states to facilitate the transportation of goods from Ukraine. Since the onset of the conflict, Grampet Group’s railway operators have played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and reactivating key transport routes on the North-South axis. To date, they have successfully transported over 1.5 million tonnes of goods related to Ukraine.

With a monthly capacity to handle 240,000 tonnes of grain and agricultural products, the Dornesti terminal will serve as a strategic hub for optimizing the flow of goods to the port of Constanta. This investment underscores Grampet Group’s enduring commitment, spanning 25 years, to bolster Romania’s railway transport infrastructure and foster regional connectivity.

“This EUR 10 million investment is yet another proof of the commitment we made 25 years ago to contribute to the development of the railway transport infrastructure in Romania and to connect to the region. It is a remarkable achievement for Grampet, but also for Romania,” stated Gruia Stoica, CEO of Grampet Group.

The terminal, operated by Grup Feroviar Roman and the fifth within the Grampet Group, is designed for continuous operation, boasting a maximum capacity of 3 million tonnes. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities including railcar loading and unloading stations, the terminal can handle up to eight railcars simultaneously, ensuring efficient operations at a rate of 500 tonnes per hour.

By leveraging modern technological solutions and innovative practices, the terminal achieves optimal electricity consumption per ton of transshipped product. All operational processes are automated and overseen by specialized teams, enabling seamless transport flows for grain and agricultural products originating in Ukraine and destined for export via Constanta port.

Grampet Group, established a quarter of a century ago, stands as the leading railway group and private logistics operator in Romania and Central and South-Eastern Europe. The company has forged partnerships with sister companies within the group, as well as state-owned and private railway operators across several European countries.
