Over 2,200 Troops Engage in Multinational Exercise ‘Sea Shield 24’ in Romania

More than 2,200 troops, along with 135 sea-going and riverine vessels, aircraft, and vehicles, are currently participating in a training exercise along the Black Sea coast and the Danube Delta. This exercise, known as ‘Sea Shield 24,’ involves 12 NATO member and partner states.

The participating nations include Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, the UK, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, and the USA. Additionally, various branches of the Romanian armed forces and national defense bodies are also involved.

The training focuses on a variety of missions, such as combating illegal activities at sea and inland, maritime and inland control, search and rescue operations, providing assistance to distressed ships, and ensuring security for critical infrastructure.

‘Sea Shield 24’ is the most extensive event organized by the Romanian Navy this year, aiming to enhance interoperability among the participating forces and promote Romania’s initiatives and interests on a regional and international level. The exercise also aims to streamline Navy planning cycles in collaboration with other branches of the military.

The opening ceremony of the exercise took place in the port of Constanta on Monday morning.
